St Malo June 2011

Last Christmas my belle soeur offered me two Wonderboxes. Inside a Wonderbox you will find photos and descriptions of vacation spots all over France. In this one we chose an authentic gypsy wagon somewhere in France that we could get to by train. It was really a lucky coincidence that the Manoir de la Baronnerie is located in Saint Malo. My apprentice comes from there and we’re always taking about it’s rich history of pirates and sailors. I’ve wanted to visit for a long time.

Just as we arrived my camera busted, mysteriously. So I had to buy some disposables and one of them had a leak, so that’s why some of the photos are burnt.

I wore my favorite gypsy dress for the occasion. The shoes used to belong to a flamenco dancer that a friend bought a bunch of her items at an estate sale.

The wagons had electricity but no running water. We took showers, etc. in the castle:

The old part of town is all in stone and protected by a rampart. There a forts built on islands outside the city, some accessible when the tide is out. There is also a swiming pool built into the beach to protect swimmers from the strong tides. I’d like to try it out next time!

We ate delicious crepes at every meal. My favorite was a desert crepe with peaches, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.
